Does atheism cause violence?

Usually not atheism directly. Atheists usually don't fight wars with each other.

I'm sure there are a few radicals who kill religious people from time to time. And many communist governments that committed mass murders were based on atheistic ideals, but atheism wasn't directly linked to the violence.

Basically anything can cause violence when used the wrong way. Just accept that and you'll be fine.

Religion causes more violence, war, and hatred than atheism.

Atheists are tolerant of other beliefs and have better things to do in life than fight others.

Atheists are 16% of the general population but less than 1% of the prison population. So obviously religion leads to crime (which is one form of violence).

The godless are telling the world that religion is wrong and that belief in God leads to wars of religion.

Yet in one century atheist leaders managed to kill more than hundreds of millions of people.

Atheism itself does not. But there are some ideologies of which atheism has been a part which have resorted to terrible things. Like with religion, there are people out there who will use any excuse they can get to inflict harm on others.

No, atheism is unbelief in any gods. Violence is usually carried out in the name of killing your god's supposed enemies or consolidating a dictator's power. I can't think of a single instance of violence being carried out in the name of atheism.

Any strongly held position, be it political, religious, a world view or other paradigm has the potential to produce violence. The issue is not so much one of position as much as it is human nature. A thankfully limited number of humans turn to violence. This has been true of atheists as well as theists.

No, since atheism does not have a book of violence..

First, the premise that Nazism and Communism were “atheist” ideologies makes sense only within a religiocentric worldview that divides political systems into those that are based on Judaeo-Christian ideology and those that are not. In fact, 20th-century totalitarian movements were no more defined by a rejection of Judaeo-Christianity than they were defined by a rejection of astrology, alchemy, Confucianism, Scientology, or any of hundreds of other belief systems. They were based on the ideas of Hitler and Marx, not David Hume and Bertrand Russell, and the horrors they inflicted are no more a vindication of Judeao-Christianity than they are of astrology or alchemy or Scientology.

Nope.

No.

Atheists may be violent, theists may be violent. But there is nothing about being an atheist that makes someone violent.

However, for many theists, their holy books contain passages that incite violence against others.

Yeah, those darn atheists with their crusades, inquisitions, witch hunts, genocide. Such violence!

Do Guns Kill People ?

NO PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

Same Goes For Atheism And Religious People .

Most definitely, anytime an atheist goes public there are death threats from Christians.

No secular democracies have ever gone to war with each other. Does that answer your question?

No, but religious extremism certainly does though.

I believe not.
